Sometimes it’s just about letting the actual sun shine in and through a room with light fabrics on windows, as throws, and even as upholstery. “In the summer months, I am always drawn to gauzy, light fabrics with tons of texture,” Augusta Hoffman says. “I love to slipcover club chairs and sofas with creamy linens and toss oversized, graceful bedcovers over the end of the bed.” The approach should feel as carefree as the fabrics themselves, according to the designer. “This should feel effortless and airy. There is something about a room full of relaxed, white textiles that always sings summer to me.”

Is there anything better than a beautifully appointed al fresco meal in a garden with just the right bold glasswear, linen napkins, twinkling lights and subtle candlelight? Bring that outdoor vibe inside. When the warm weather hits, Annie Downing of Annie Downing Interiors recommends tossing the clutter and stashing any heavy bedding or throw blankets. “Lean into color by layering vibrant cocktail glassware, candle sticks in fun colors, and patterned tablecloths.” It’s really about creating an outdoor garden vibe inside with strategic use of color, patterns, and of course, flora and fauna. “Keep fresh flowers in constant rotation for good measure,” Downing remarks.
